What is an AI agent?

An AI that can do things, not just talk about them. It runs on a computer and uses it the way you would: it can read and write files, organise notes, look things up and run the programs you have installed, then tell you what it did.

Is Desk a chatbot?

Desk is the app you talk in. The difference is what is on the other end: your own agent, on your own computer, with your projects and files to hand, rather than a website that forgets you between visits.

What is a model key, and what does it cost?

The model is the AI your agent thinks with, from a company such as Google, Anthropic, OpenAI or DeepSeek. A key lets your agent use it, and that company bills you for what it uses. Costs depend on how much you use it and which model you choose; you can set a spending limit with the company.

Does my computer need to stay on?

Yes, for you to reach it from your phone. Your agent works on that computer, so if it is asleep or off, Desk will say so. If you would rather not leave one on, choose a personal server instead: it sleeps when you are not using it and wakes when you are.

What is Tailscale, and why do I need it?

A free app that links your own devices privately over the internet, so your phone can reach your computer from the park as well as from the sofa. You need it on the computer your agent runs on and on your phone. A personal server does not need it.

Where are my conversations kept? Who can see them?

On your agent's computer, with a copy on your phone so you can read them offline. If your agent is on your own computer, Meta-Me never holds them. When you speak, the audio is sent to Meta-Me to be turned into text and is not kept. The privacy policy has the detail.

Can the agent do things I do not want?

It works on the computer it runs on, so put it on one you are happy for it to work on. You see what it is doing as it does it, it asks when it needs a decision, and you can stop it at any moment from the app or from the notification.

Which devices does it work on?

The app is on Android, iPhone, Mac and Linux. Your agent can run on a Mac or a Linux computer, or on a personal server in the cloud.

Can I use it with my voice only?

Yes. Start dictation and it keeps listening with the screen locked and the phone in your pocket. A headset or Bluetooth media button starts and stops it, and replies can be read aloud.

What does it cost?

Desk is part of a Meta-Me subscription: £8 a month, with a 30-day free trial, and it includes every Meta-Me app. Your model key is billed separately by the company it comes from. See pricing.
