Your first agent, in four steps

The app walks you through each one and ticks it off as you go. Here is what to expect.

Step one

Get the app

Install Desk on your phone, and on the computer you want your agent to live on. It is on Android and iPhone, Mac and Linux.

Download Desk

Step two

Create a Meta-Me account, or sign in to the one you have. Your first 30 days are free, then it is £8 a month and includes every Meta-Me app.

Step three

Add a model key

Your agent thinks with an AI model from a company such as Google, Anthropic, OpenAI or DeepSeek. Desk shows you a link to each one: make an account there, create a key, copy it and paste it into Desk. You pay that company directly for what your agent uses.

Desk's setup walks you through it: which company, where to make the key, and where to paste it.

An old-fashioned key.

Step four

Choose where your agent runs

Two ways. Most people start with a computer they already have.

Recommended

On your own computer

A Mac or Linux computer that stays on at home is ideal. On that computer, open Desk, choose Add an agent, then This computer, and Desk installs it, ticking off each step.

To reach it from your phone when you are out, both need Tailscale: a free app that links your own devices privately, wherever they are. Desk points you to it and checks it is working.

Have more than one computer? Add an agent on each and switch between them.

No computer that stays on?

A personal server

Desk can set up a small private computer in the cloud, just for you, with one button. There is nothing to install and no Tailscale to set up. It goes to sleep when you are not using it and wakes when you are.

That's it

Say hello

Type a message, or press the microphone and talk. Try something small first: ask it what it can see on the computer, or to start a list for a project you have in mind. Then lock your phone, put it in your pocket and keep talking.

A phone and a laptop far apart, talking wirelessly across the gap.
